Summer season

As fall envelopes us not just with time, but temperatures as well as leaves falling and whirling around as the wind blows, I find myself thinking about the summer season. For me, I had intentions of physical fitness, lots of tennis matches and competitions, as well as getting back into a writing groove. As we all know, the best intentions are often sidelined or blindsided with what the Universe deems more timely, appropriate, or fitting.

On June 6, I was driving southbound on Colorado Boulevard at Bayaud headed home from Cherry Creek when a banner popped up from the neighborhood community social network, Nextdoor, on my iPhone. Words that jumped out at me included “brain tumor”, “short term”, “balance deficits”, and “24-hour companion”. Intuitively, I knew this was something the Universe had already determined was going to be part of my life. I decided to click into the post for more information when I was safely stopped. When I returned home, I read the full post and I immediately knew it was right for me to connect with this woman and help her as so many people had helped me when I had balance deficits and more due to my brain injury.

The post said the help would be short term so I thought, “What a great way to start my summer!” I knew deep down this opportunity to help would enhance my life—I just wasn’t prepared for the true meaning of it. In fact, the entire summer and beginning of fall was nothing like I had originally planned for myself in May–and I am so much better for it.

In future posts, I’ll write more about this summer season—my season with Cathy—and how it changed my life temporarily as it completely sidelined me from my physical fitness plans (I put on a few pounds) as well as pushed out my writing on my books and other marketing endeavors. I’ll also describe how my season with Cathy impacted my life on a personal, relational level—and how my life is forever changed as a result of my 15 weeks, or 105 days, with this amazing woman.

For now, I encourage all of you to pay attention to the Universe as it beckons you to act. The rewards are plentiful!

Ciao for now,

Jena
